How to Make Any Decision

.

.

There are a lot of things I wish they would have taught us in school and one of them is how to make a decision.

I didn’t really learn how until life coach training, (beyond making a pro con list) and now I make sure to teach it not only to my clients but, my own children as well.
And, let me tell you, there have been a lot of decisions made around my house lately, big life altering ones but, I'm proud to say the process was mostly painfree.

How about you?

How do you feel about your own decision-making abilities?

Let me tell you what I often see…

I see a lot of people wasting a lot of time in indecision. Thinking about the same decision over and over … should I do the thing, buy the dress, sell the house, move to Atlanta, leave the husband, have a baby?

Most people spend hours pondering a decision, talking about said decision, getting opinions about the decision, laying awake at 2 am worrying about the decision. And, sometimes, we pull a full on Scarlet O’hare “I’ll think about that tomorrow!” putting the decision out of our minds, prolonging the process, wasting our own damn time.

Wallowing in indecision is not a good look. You stay stuck, stuck, stuck.

We are faced with so many decisions in life and a lot of time we just don’t make them.
We end up reacting to our life and our circumstances.

Here’s the thing, if you want to create new things in your life you gotta learn to make decisions.

Below are 8 ideas that you can use to help you make any decision!

1. Stop indulging in confusion. Stop it! Stop it right now! Ask yourself “If I did know what to do, what would the answer be?” Give your brain a chance to answer cause, honey, you do know exactly what to do.

2. Consider this…there are no wrong decisions. It’s true, the only thing that makes something a wrong decision is if you think it’s wrong. Don’t do that. Have your own back. Once you make a decision think thoughts that make it right.

3. Give yourself a deadline for the decision to be made. Don’t fool yourself, decisions are made in an instant not the time you spend agonizing, pondering and discussing ad nauseum.

4. Take your issue that needs a decision, consider each possible option and make it amazing. For instance, if you need to make a decision about whether to stay in your current job or take another job. Create a scenario in your mind where each option works out beautifully and you are super happy and successful. Now, which option would you want?

5. Ask yourself “What option moves you closer to who you want to be?"

6. Consider if you are deciding between two things if you could have both. Does it really have to be one or the other? Maybe it’s just a timing thing.

7. Make sure you like your reasons for the decision you make.

8. Think about the best-case scenario and the worst scenario for each option. Understanding that the worst-case scenario could very well be missing out on the best case scenario.

Happy decision making!
