Caring For Your Future Self

I sat down at the Blow Dry Café at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon with an iced cold brew in hand. It was an appointment I booked 3 weeks ago with the stylist I love (my hair doesn’t like to take curl and she makes it work!!!)

She was baffled. “How are you here? Why are you so calm, don’t you have a party tonight?”

I laughed and thought about myself just a few short years ago and how I would have been a bit stressed and I would never have had the time for things like blow outs the night of a party I was throwing.

“Yes, I have a party tonight but, I’m ready, I’ve done the work ahead of time."

It’s true, a few weeks ago I wrote out a list of all of the things that had to be done to throw this epic grad party.

I carefully wrote down every step, every call, everything I had to order and I thought about how to take care of myself, scheduling in my workouts and getting my hair blown out the day of the event. It was all part of the plan.

I carefully scheduled things each day and executed the plan pretty flawlessly.

Did I want to do what I scheduled each day?

No, not always.

But, I thought about my future self who would be at the party and did it for her, even when my brain told me it would be more fun to do something else.

Were there obstacles?

Oh yes, my ac went out 4 days before the event so coaching and party prep was done in an uncomfortable 80 degree house.
But, it all got done.

The party was epic, I love entertaining as much as I love coaching and I must say this party was one for the books.

Here’s the thing... making a detailed plan for an event, a trip, your week, your business might seem like too much work, it might seem like it takes too much time.
You might be more used to winging it, being spontaneous, I know… I used to too.

But, I will tell you I felt so cared for on Saturday as Malia did my hair. Because of my planning ahead of time, I was able to show up to the party, be engaged with my guests and know that I did that for myself. Planning ahead of time is self care 5.0. I do it for my business and my personal life.

Are you ready to take care of future you?

Yes?

Then try this....

Take an hour at the beginning of your week and write down everything that you need to do that week.
Schedule everything in your calendar, noting how much time you will need for each item.
Execute your plan.
Show up for yourself.

I'd love to hear how it goes! xoxo
