What's For Dinner?

Aside from the word “Mom!”

“What’s for dinner?” are probably the three words I’ve heard the most in my life as a mom. From sun-up to sundown someone is always asking "What's for dinner?"

A toast to my skills in the kitchen?
Perhaps, but, from now on, I think my response will be “What are you looking forward to today besides dinner?” before telling them what they want to know.

For sure we need food for fuel but, eating food has become the only joy for way too many people.

Along with trying to feel joy we eat food when we aren't hungry to avoid our feelings (aka buffering).

I actually buffered with food as I was writing this email for you.

It’s true.

As I was writing, all of a sudden the words stopped flowing and I felt stuck. Instead of sitting for a minute and allowing the feeling of stuck to pass I got up and went to the refrigerator.

I wasn’t hungry.

I felt stuck, annoyed and frustrated.

I guess my subconscious mind still thinks that leftover chicken quesadilla will solve stuck, truth is it won’t, no food can. Leftover quesadilla tastes delicious in the moment but a few minutes later I was kicking myself for buffering with food again.

Yes, even coaches forget now and again…

If you’re working on your health and fitness learning to feel your feelings and doing what brings you real joy every day are skills that are worth their weight in gold to develop.

Feel your feelings and solve for joy in your life and your “hunger” for food will decrease.

What brings you real joy other than the answer to the most asked question..."What's for dinner?"?
