Get Your Hopes Up!

“Don’t get your hopes up” is terrible advice.

Now the words “Don’t get your hopes up” are surprisingly well meaning. The phrase is most often uttered by parents and others who love us very much and don’t want us to ever feel sad or disappointed.

But, think about it… lets say… you have a goal that you want to appear on the TedX stage
and someone says, “That’s nice, but, don’t get your hopes up, so many people have that same goal”.

How would you feel?

If you took that advice to heart you might decide to quit before you start.
At the very least you most likely would feel wishy washy about your ability and sadly, I can almost guarantee I won’t ever watch your Ted Talk.

I say “Get your hopes up”. Think about how awesome you will feel when you achieve that goal, and then feel that way all day long everyday until you get what you want.

Believe all the way until it happens or it doesn’t and you decide to quit trying.

If all you are going to feel is an emotion either way, What’s the harm?
No emotion can kill you, never have, never will.

Set a goal, make a plan, manage your mind and get your hopes up.

You got this.
